Something like 50,000 - 60,000 open tech jobs are available in the US alone. Thus, those who take the jobs get paid well.
It's a stigmatized profession where, like many professions, a few bad apples spoil the bunch. My brother is a tech, and a damn good one, and a very honest, reasonable, nice person on top of it all. Tech work is extremely difficult, from working conditions, dealing with uninformed service writers, dealing with wacko customers, and the extreme time demands of the work.
Most techs charge "book rate" for work, by the way. If they can finish a 4 hour job in 2, they deserve the extra cash for being that good at it.
They deserve every penny they get.
