loudsy tires, they can't defy the law of physics regardless of how many wheels are powering the vehicle when there isn't much traction to start with.

Yes, if you have good WINTER tires on your FWD car, you probably get around better than folks with AWD/4WD vehicles on marginal all-season tires. But if you have equivalent tires, AWD/4WD vehicles probably have the advantage. It also helps if the driver knows what he/she is doing :-).
