In my SAAB with snows (yokohama F720, great tire), I couldn't follow my friend in his beater Suby Legacy with snows (hakka 1's) up his road. Don't tell me if I had Hakka's or Gislaveds (sp?) I would have made it! It is one of the steepest dirt roads in VT (Bolton Notch road for those familiar). At the time, it had 6" unplowed over packed snow/ice. I even tried reversing up the hill to get more normal force to the front wheels. IMO, in the deep stuff and on steep terrain, AWD wins any day.

Not sayin' we should all run out and buy AWD cars. Most of the time, I can get by with FWD. And or course, the brain behind the wheel can make all the difference ;)
