and yosemite in march. best snow is from Dec to early march. you do not have to worry about snow camping if that is not your style. yellowstone can be cold, but you can stay at the "new" Old Faithful Inn at night. yosemite also offers an excellent overnight ski trip from badger pass to glacier point (overlooks half dome). Also, snowshoeing and snowmobiling (in yellowstone) are available. January temps could be in the single digits with neg windchill, but the snow is amazing. i skied on top of about 4-5 foot base for most of the trails (except near the geysers for obvious reasons). It is well worth it even if it is cold. and bring a camera with a telephoto lens ( i have a nikon N90 with a 70-300 mm) for wildlife photos.
