Last fall, someone hit and run my E-type roadster. Had the police come, etc..
Cosmetic damage only, but not cheap. Couldn't really repaint just a little portion of the car. So, I'm repainting the whole thing, but before that can be done, I have to have some bodywork done in random areas that show they need it as the paint comes off. Sort of a chain reaction.
I made note of the height of the bumper that drove or backed into it (Ford f250 or bigger SUV height). I then wandered at ramdom times all throught our downtown at different times during the following couple of days looking for scuffed corners of bumpers of that height and shape.
I didn't find anything.
It was probably a tourist or construction worker from out of town.
