We've tried several of the higher quality brands like Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet...etc. We noticed that these had lots of oils in them, made our dog's breath unbearable, and he always had dry skin (go figure since it was so oily).
We settled for a while on Nutro as our dog loved it, his coat was healthy as can be, less stool, weight maintanence...etc. Our vet told us this was a great choice of food because there are no byproducts in it. He suggested that we should give our dog a bag of Petsmart's 'Authority' which is their own brand and virtually identical to Nutro. Side by side...same ingredients and percentages of each, also no byproducts. Only difference was the price...$19 for a 33lb bag and our dog loves it. Been using it for about a year now and all seems fine.
He used to be pretty picky about what he was eating...but he looks forward to a bowl of this every morning.
He's a basset hound and almost 7 years old...they're usually prone to getting fat and lazy, but he's still as active as ever and in great shape. I'd highly suggest the Authority brand from Petsmart.
Below is a link to google on Authority...many reviews and comments about it.
