Makes cars like M3's possible. It would scorch the tires at every stop light without it. A very skilled, but slightly inattentive driver, could get himself in big, big trouble, in a seemingly normal situation without traction control or a stability program.
Only in the last decade has a 15 second quarter mile been "slow". No offense, but you must be 30ish or younger. Not so long ago a 15 second quarter mile was muscle car territory.
All these factory hot rods you describe are very comfortable driving cars a 100 plus mph, but don't make good grocery getters, too stiff, too high strung, too low to the ground, too much expensive maintenance requirements. Only through the modern miracles are 100hp per liter cars even somewhat streetable.
