The fact is that many people were brought up to believe that they would make more money and have a better life, the more educated they became. In general, it's true, but when you have an area like Eastern MA with endless 'techies', finance guys, etc., and only so many plumbers, the plumbers find themselves with very good pickings. Because some trades have appeared less glamorous to many people, those who go into them tend to do well financially. To save paying $300 for an hours work, I will happily submerge myself in crap in my own bathroom for an hour. I wouldn't want to be within 20 feet of anybody else's crap for 2 minutes for that much.
There was an amusing Frasier episode a few years ago, when a plumber came to fix the toilet!
