Both the 9-3 and the 9-5 are check rated and recommended by Consumer Reports website. I don't subscribe, so I don't have the actual reliability tables in front of me, but in the past Consumer Reports has been very favorable to Saab. 9-5's have been a recommended used car for every year. Recent JD Powers Vehicle Dependability Study has been very favorable too, putting Saab above average.

CPO is a good value for the consumer. You can get a nice Saab anywhere and you can get a warranty anywhere, but when you get it from the dealer who knows the cars and the warranty is from the factory, AND the prices for the warranty is very competitive or cheaper versus what you spend for an aftermarket warranty, than why not?

Generally a CPO car is pre-selected more carefully, inspected and reconditioned more carefully and certainly warrantied better and by the folks who know the car, a Saab dealer. And as I mentioned, the cost to the dealer for a CPO warranty is about half what a consumer would pay from a first line warranty company like the General Motors Protection Plan.

A Saab dealer would be happy to un-certify a used Saab and save you the $1,250 cost of the CPO warranty, but few, or I should really say nobody, chooses that option.

And a Saab dealer doesn't neccessarily pay more for the cars, they just get first crack at the nice ones particularly off lease.
