We are about to become a two-Aero family! My husband, who posts as Red850guy, will soon have to change his tag as we are going to sell the Volvo and replace with a silver 1995 9K Aero (mine is same year & model but red).
Here is the question. We are in Boston, the car is in Dallas. He is flying down next week to see the car, do a test drive, and take it to a local mechanic for a once-over. We are going to have it shipped up here. My husband would prefer, for his own peace of mind, to pay for the car in cash so that there will be no delay while the check clears, so he can have the title in his hand and deliver the car to the shipper himself before he gets back on the plane. I'm more than a little paranoid about him travelling alone with THAT MUCH CASH (eep!) and would prefer that he pay with a bank check and just deal with the fact that the title will have to be overnighted to us after the check clears, and that the shipping will have to be arranged remotely. In fact, the extra week will be valuable since it would be best if we were able to sell the Volvo long before the Saab ever arrives (we have on-street parking only). Then again, maybe I'm less of a hurry because I already have a sweet pretty Aero parked out front :)
Aside from general opinions on what the smartest choice would be, I'm also wondering if there are options that we aren't aware of for putting your hands on a lot of cash in a state where you don't have a bank account. (I'm arguing for Travellers Checks, though we need to see what the seller thinks about this.) Options such as robbing a liquor store or mugging the Brinks guy are out of the question. :)
Many thanks,
RedAeroGirl
