<<My bank highly advised against giving out my account info to anyone. >>
That's kind of silly. How can you ever receive a wire if you don't give the wire instructions?
Do you write checks, maybe to the phone company or at Wal-Mart? Guess what. Your name, the ABA number and account number (in other words, the info required to wire funds for your account) are on the check.
So your bank says it's okay for everybody who works at the phone company and at Wal-Mart to have your information, but don't you dare give it to someone who needs to have it to do business with you?
What's the point of a bank account if not to do business?
By the way, did you know that you could get anybody's complete information, including SSN, for $20 bucks from a credit bureau?
End of rant.
