...to stick with the cash idea that you suggested. I have tried to purchase cars out of state and wanted cash-in-hand to try to make the deal (in unfamiliar territory) go as smoothly as possible. Time being important to everyone involved, I didn't want to wait for checks to clear etc. Plus it leaves room for on-the-spot negeotiating after seeing the car in person. When travelling with $$...as hard as it may sound...the best thing is to act as normal as possible even though you have all that cash. Nothing like riding the bus in downtown L.A. with $7k in your pocket to get you a little ancy.
But you touched on a good topic. Maybe your bank/credit union can arrange a cash withdrawal at another bank close to the cars location. Maybe you can open an account and have money transferred ahead of time.
