I apologize if this is old news.
Saab Hatches A Wagon
The Australian
November 10, 2004

SAAB'S 9-3 will grow into a station wagon next year as the ailing luxury arm of General Motors struggles to maintain sales. The wagon, based on the 9-3 Sport Hatch concept unveiled at Frankfurt motor show last year, pictured, is expected to be the first Saab with GM's new V6.
Internet car site Wards Auto says the 9-3 Sport Hatch will use a turbocharged version of the unit that develops more than 200kW. Sources within GM confirmed the Sport Hatch would run a 2.8-litre turbo V6 that would initially be exclusive to the wagon. The Holden Commodore has just adopted a 3.6-litre naturally aspirated version of the engine that develops 190kW in its sports tune.
Saab Australia spokesman Paul Ellis said the 9-3 Sport Hatch would be launched internationally midway through 2005 and reach Australia by the fourth quarter. A facelift and equipment revision for 9-3 sedans is also expected.
The 9-3 Sport Hatch will arrive none too soon for a marque that is losing momentum in Australia. So far this year, 1663 Saabs have been sold here, down from 1828 for the same period last year.
The company's Australian headquarters will be absorbed by Holden next year, with Saab staff moving into Holden's new offices in Fishermens Bend, Melbourne.
