What to do with an unresponsive auto body shop?

Hi Saabnet gang,
I'm going to need your opinions on this matter because I don't know what to do.
I was in a car accident a month ago and the cars been in the shop and supposedly being worked on since 10/17. It was first promised after 20 working days, then end of this week, and now the answer is "I don't know when it will be ready."
According to the owner of the shop, the hood is what's holding everything up. He said that Saab is out of stock on the hood and there's 63 other people waiting for this hood. He doesn't know when they'll come in, maybe this week, maybe next week... Apparently no one knows, not even the Saab part supplier (according to him).
Well, I've never trusted this guy since day one. But, being new and the insurance agent said they had used him before and said they never received any complaints from him, plus I didn't want the hassle of moving the car to another shop, plus I didn't know where to move it to... you get the point I hope. I just left the car there and decided to have them work on it. This shop's not on the insurance company's recommended list so the only thing my adjuster can do is to call them and "push" them... The insurance company's already paid him, so I can't see why this guy has any reason to rush getting my car fixed, besides practicing good customer service. So, here I am... one month without my car... I was planning on driving my car back home for the Thanksgiving holiday, but it looks like i'll have to rent now. I dont' really feel like I can complain to him. It doesn't seem like that's going to help. Plus my car is still in his shop all torn down. Last thing I want to do is piss him off and then have shoddy work done.
So, sorry for the long rant, but I really don't know what to do at this point. I've never had to deal with this before. thanks for any help.
Ivan
