While I agree with Mike about a battery being the weakest link, I don't think that's necessarily the problem with your dad's car. I have a 911 with a conventional battery and it has never failed to start. I don't use it every day, so I keep it hooked up to a Battery Tender Plus. But, if I did use it every day, I would only hook up the Battery Tender if I was going out of town for a week or two. I suspect that there is either a problem with the battery in your dad's 911 or there is a drainage on the battery being caused by something like a leaking diode. A simple load test will determine if there's a bad cell or a continuity problem with the battery. You can get a correct volt reading by connecting a voltmeter to the battery terminals, but the only way to determine if there's an issue below the terminals is with a load test. If the battery checks out OK, then a diode could be at fault. If not, they will have to start looking further. A Porsche tech friend of mine was recently stumped by a similar problem. It turned out to be a chaffed wire in the harness that controls the driver's power seat. A wire was making contact with the seat rails and even though the seat wasn't moving, there was power being constantly requested and sent to the switch, even when the ignition was off. Porsche dealers are very good regarding warranty and/or repair issues. Good luck.
