Why can't Californians drive?
I know it's a generalization, but after 18 month of living here, I'm up to 5 accidents. NONE of them are my fault.
1. 1994 C900TC CE - Front bumper hit by a teenage girl. Car was parked. Her insurance took care of it.
2. 1990 SPG - idiot in a big pickup was backing out of a parallel parking space and scraped up top of the front bumper. I wasn't there. My wife tore into him, but nothing came of it. The guy just blew it off. Good thing it wasn't my vert!
3. 1994 C900TC CE - Front bumper is hit while parked at a concert. The culprit ran off and didn't leave a note. I fixed it DIY with factory fresh parts and ended up at about $1-200 over my insurance deductible.
4. 2001 9-3 - Less than 1 month into owning the car, the back bumper got rubbed in a parking lot in LA. Someone else's green paint is in the "rub strip", But after some cleanup I think that will end up looking OK.
5. TODAY - 1990 SPG - driving to work I was stopped at a light. Guy behind me in a 20 year old pickup didn't see the 82321 stopped cars ahead of him and slammed on his brakes too late, hitting my car. It happened like slow motion. I have a nice screw mark and paint scrapes on my rear bumper. Other than the paint and screw mark the plastic looks OK from the back, but the gap between the bumper and the side skirt (between bumper and wheel well) is about 0.5 or 1.0 cm smaller. Since the car will likely be crushed due to rust issues this year anyway, I just let it go. The guy wrote down his name/phone/address, but he "didn't have his ID or Insurance on him." I think he was probably uninsured. Good thing he hit my beater, or I would have had cops there in 2 seconds.
Lesson learned, never buy a viggen or aero in CA because it will only break your heart when some moron hits it.
