interested by this post. Granted, I grew up in a small town (~2500) and learned to drive on windy roads. Having family in the bay area (Hey Scott!) I 've done a fair share of city driving but, I admit, not on a regular basis, and it usually consists of freeways and then parking in suburban areas. My experience when I went to college in Spokane, WA was that those drivers stank. Maybe it's just a city driving thing that I noticed. My first car was totaled in Spokane by someone (From Salt LAke City) who ran a stop sign and broad-sided me (I had no stop).
Maybe I should get out more? I agree that distracted drivers are all too common and that it's hideously easy to get a driver's license (Almost anywhere, IMHO).
Hey, if California drivers stink (generally speaking) so be it, but generalizations really do nothing for drawing conlcusions about any one particular person.
So, 5 mis-haps in 18 months seems really unfortunate...considering that my only accident (in 10 years) happened in a city out of state. I guess when you get so many people and cars so close together the chances go up...
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I must add that when I'm driving in S.F. or any other tight and crowded urban area or on residential streets, or even parking in such areas, I raise the defensive driving up a notch and think foru or five times about where I'm parking my Aero.
