Here's some cons:
- Big profile head, and it's hard to get under chairs, table, etc. I think the $500 one has the attachment with low profile. I didn't get it.
- The hose is too tight, may be it will loosen up with time, but it's really springy now and pulls the vaccuum all over the place when I try to use it. Also the the vaccuum doesn't want to stay upright while using the hose. So it will fall over.
- Oh yeah, when using the hose, wear long sleeve pants if your legs aren't shaved. It seems to grab leg hair as the hose brushes your leg. Ouch!
- It doesn't seem to suck the edges very well.
These are my only complaints. Otherwise, I'm amazed at the stuff it 'sucks'. We had a Kirby demo at our house once. They were good machines, but expensive! I think the Dyson does as good of a job as Hoover. I had an old $80 Hoover that finally gave up its ghost after 12 years (bought it right after college). But I always felt I was recycling the dust, instead of removing them. So I decided to make an investment. My wife thought I was out of my mind. But she agrees the house is much cleaner and fresher now, so she's ok with it. Also, I did a little calculation and by time you buy a Hepa filter machine for $100 and let's say you replace the filter, supposedly every year, at $25 per pop, after a few years, it approached the cost of my Dyson (I bought it for $340 out the door). Anyways, my 2 cents. Oh yeah, check Ebay. I think you can buy $500 one for about $350.
Another thing... I prefer bagless. It's nice to see how full it is. Then I just dump it in my garden. Before with a bag, I seem to always wait until the bag is bustin at the seems. That's why there always seemed to have this weird smell after vacuuming with Hoover. (Dust recirculation).
I don't think you'll regret it.
