except I do wish the 9-7x to be a success. I don't think the 9-7x will really put new SUVs on the road, only steal sales from other manufacturers ( mainly other GM divisions probably). But if it helps Saab pull through and keep producing interesting cars, that's great, although I don't see future Saabs being designed exclusevly by Saab. Sharing platforms with Subaru is not the worst thing that could have happened to Saab, but in a way, Subarus are gas guzzlers also. When shopping for a second car, we would have considered the 9-2 if it had been available in FWD and therefore burn less gas. With the ongoing battle between Fiat and GM, the next 9-5 was delayed because originally it was to be a joint venture with Fiat (as was the 9000), which I think would have been a more «natural» alliance.
A lot hangs in the balance for Saab at the moment but it's also exciting times with the biggest model offensive in it's history, so the best thing Saab can do for GM is help it make money, not loose money. When you look at the profits Toyota generates, it's obvious they will replace GM as No. 1 in a few years. If GM doesn't find a way of generating profits building cars (GMAC, their finance arm is keeping them in the black for now), they will eventually drop the biggest money losers and I'm sure Saab is on that shortlist. Some might say it's the best thing that could happen to Saab, but that's just because it's easy to hate GM. The fact remains, GM is all Saab has at the moment.
