Venezuelan Olympic bronze medal swimmer, Raul Vidal has been killed in a car crash that occurred on the Caracas La Trinidad-El Hatillo road.

The accident took place at 3.30 on Saturday morning and according to the latest report, Vidal (41) died instantly after a Hummer allegedly smashed into his Corolla.

* The Hummer carried Vidal's car 40 meters before stopping.

Vidal's sister, Carolina says she and the family will seek justice and the death will not remain impune.

Roberto Detto Redelli (24) is said to have been driving the Hummer, accompanied by Gabriel Ignacio Sanz (24).

It appears that the Hummer was drag-racing a yellow Camaro, which managed to miss Vidal's car, while Detto Redaelli lost control of his expensive Hummer, one of the few in Venezuela.

Neighbors confirm that the road is used for drag-car races on a daily basis despite traffic lights.

* Vidal leaves 2 children behind him aged 8 and 4.

Retiring from swimming shortly after returning from the Olympic Gamers in Los Angeles (1984) with the bronze medal, Vidal was employed by a TV channel as a sports commentator and became a well-know TV personality.
