die-hard Saab-heads, but it's still a good car. Have seen half a dozen 9-2s in Southern NH, but only one in my town, where there are lots of Saabs of all flavors. But this is an affluent town, which probably influences that. 9-5s are steadily replacing the 9Ks, and there are a growing number of Audis, at least two of which I know replaced Saabs.
It often takes a while for a new model to catch on, not only with existing owners of the marque, but prospective owners. This can be even more difficult when a car is so closely derived from another brand. I think a lot of people would say
"it's the same as a Subarau, so why not just buy a Subie," without really trying to learn the differences.
To sell more, (both 9-2s and in general) Saab needs to market better, give the cars a image that makes people want to go see them, and generate some excitement. The equivalent of VW's "Driver's Wanted" campaign wouuld go a long way toward re-energizing the brand. Marketing is all about perception, and Saab needs to work on the perception.
