Eval LCD sets yourself, products vary and the off axis issues are not a problem with many products today, just watch and walk around as you judge this. Some LCD sets are spectatular and have 1920 pixels of the 1080 spec displayed instead of compressed. These larger pixel densities are only seen on bigger displays. (example 45")
Some sets convert interlaced to internal progressive and everything gets displayed as progressive.
You can get a TV or HD tuner that supports 1080x, but the resolution or pixels on the display can be anything. So you need to really look at the display resolution, not just what the tuner can accept.
A 32" 6x9 wide screen has about the same display height as a 27" 3x4 screen. So when you look at non-wide content on the 32" 6x9, the pix is no bigger than the 27" TV. So when you go wide, you are needing to look at larger sizes for sure.
I am not an expert on this stuff, but my reading continues.
