I have been a musician all of my life, and I can still remember my first real Strat, Ahhh...I was in heaven. That being said, I think that everyone is forgetting that your daughter is just starting out. Keep it simple, but make sure you get her something with decent action and stable tunability that will keep her motivated to play. I'd either buy her a mexican made Fender Tele (or possibly a Strat with the bridge blocked off.) Either way, the guitar will probably never loose that much in re-sale value, and the tonal variety would be accomodating to whatever styles she finds herself into. For your wallets sake and more importantly, your sanity,I would buy her a headphone amp or maybe something like a Korg PXR4 headphone amp with a recorder or something similiar to help her learn with. This way she can sample and play along with herself and record her noodling to hone in on her creativity. Just my .02 Good Luck! :o)
