I ate low fat (Pritikin type) for many, many years, until I realized that eating so many carbs was making my head spin due to the massive insulin/sugar rush. I switched to low carb and have never felt better. Moreover, my HDL has increased, triglycerides decreased, and I've improved in every ratio (TC/HDL, etc.). My insulin resistance is also decreased. I never eat granola, only berries for fruits, no pasta, rice, beans, etc. No wheat, very few grains. Only vegetables (whole, minimally processed), meat, and cheese, and eggs. I've also ridden my bike the most ever (did my first Century last year). It's entirely a myth that high carbs are needed for exercise.
