Sleep is for the weak! I'm bad at sleeping. I have always functioned on 3-4 good hours per night, 5 hours if I'm lucky. Literally my whole life: even as a child I could never sleep. Every now and then, due to something like illness or severe jet lag I will pass out and sleep solid for 6 or 7 hours, and the weird thing is that I don't like it. I feel great anxiety about the passage of so much time during which I was completely unconscious. My husband joked, "So you think you need to stay awake to keep time company?" Not exactly, but it's that I can't switch off my brain, and this is just the way I live. The insomnia manifests itself in a few different ways. The recent pattern these past few months is that I fall asleep around 11, but I'm wide awake anytime between 1 and 3, and lie there, mind racing, until I finally get up between 5 and 6. I'd get out of bed and do crossword puzzles or something, but bed is warm and my house is cold.
