It's funny to think of it that way Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Tue, 5 Apr 2005 04:35:15 In Reply to: Re: Employers are begging for Civil Engineers...., Spiros Trianta, Mon, 4 Apr 2005 18:32:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When I got my Civil degree in '90, CEs were coming out of the woodwork in New York State. I wondered how I was ever going to get a job.
Compared to the other disciplines, CE was way less "glamorous" (and much less remunerative) than disciplines like EE and aero. I went into CE because I saw the way manufacturing was going in the US of A and decided that it was a safer course of action in the long-term than ME.
In retrospect, I should have gone into EE, but I did what I did. I never really did a fully Civil design. I got into an environmental firm and have done I&C designs for some really interesting plants, including a $350M plant expansion nere in GA.
In a nutshell, I guess that means that what you get your degree in points you in a general direction, but you can develop different aspects of your skills (including ones you never thought you had) once you get into the workplace.
