to University of Kansas. Half my harvard classmates were cheating--one whole class was thrown out because of cheating. I figured they cheated to get in and probably never stopped the rest of their lives. I was miserable.

stayed through undergraduate, graduate and after at Kansas and never been happier.

We just went through the same thing. Applications to almost all schools are up as much as 30%; it is really a crap shoot.

For what it is worth, our daughter was also rejected at Yale, very similar story to yours in terms of qualifications. But she also got into some very good schools and will be happy . I think the whole thing is related to diversity (not just race, but interests--I think it is very dangerous to blame colege rejections on race and I work on the kids all the time not to do that). And graduate school is much more important.
