he goes to an undergrad school where professors (not TA's) teach most of the time, and that recruiters come to the school. Also make sure that he wants to live and work at the locations where the recruiting companies are from. Co-ops and internships are great (especially in engineering). I also agree that the grad school name matters more, but you have to get in and if you go to an undergrad school that is unknown it may be more difficult to do that. As far as what you learn, I think (as others have said), it is what you make of it and what you prefer. I don't like competitive environments where everybody's out to get everybody else, but your son might. In the end, they teach the same calculus at Harvard as they do at Grand Valley State University.
