I disagree
The quality of cars built within the last 8-10 years has improved greatly. While there are always exceptions, this is the case overall. If you read any of the automotive press, you will see that manufacturer warranty expense and failure rates per mile driven have both come down substantially. One thing I will note is that people have taken a 'disposable car' mentality recently--meaning that people's lives have become busier and the old 'maintain to prevent failure' has changed to a 'repair when failed' mentality. I have seen firsthand people who go 15-20k miles between oil changes and never change trans fluid. The increased number of leased vehicles has aggravated/contributed to this-after all, why would you pay to maintain a vehicle you're not going to own after 2/3 years?
Long response, but a different viewpoint if nothing else.
