Same goes for pretty much any consumer good. Quality of finishes and designs are increasing, but once you get past the eye candy, it’s horrible; just like about anything else.
I blame the ignorant consumer market out there. If you make it pretty, they will buy it. The folks making “stuff” know that the internals are where their cost really are, and will see higher returns if they just spend the dough on the exterior. They also know that most won’t utilize their warranty, so they go ahead and use the cheap stuff inside knowing they won’t get enough returns to cut too deeply into their huge profit margin. The other side affect is that the good products are driven out of the market because they need to add quality everywhere, not just the exterior shell, so they can’t hit the pricepoint and sales drop like a rock...
Blame the consumers for accepting garbage. Then when it breaks, they go buy more garbage..... There is very little incentive to build in quality....
