My experience is that the wagon is not big enough for more than 2 and trip stuff. Even if it starts out OK, stuff collects and it makes travel and loading/unloading unpleasant. I know I will take some MPG hit for the roof box, but less than driving a bigger, less fuel efficient vehicle.
I plan to cover as much as possible (can never do everything), but have no specific route planned at the moment.
I have read passing comments on the BB about the road to Alaska doing significant damage to cars. I assume this is what you meant. I am definitely concerned about it. There doesn’t seem to be much one can do about this. Is the damage from gravel and the like? Is this still left over from the winter? Even in late summer? I am considering a magnetic bra just for the trip. I get lots of stone damage in the NYC area, but $45 seems like cheap insurance and a month or so on the car probably will not do much harm.
