Used car transaction went bad, what to do? =/

So I sold my 1997 Impreza Outback Sport as is for $4500; during the test drive the buyer insisted the shocks feel rough. As they should after 50K miles of pothole driving in NYC; so I lowered the price by $600 or roughly 50% of an estimate of four struts (outbacks have gas struts) and labor. Money exchanged hands and I drove back to New York; I sold the car upstate. The buyer called me today saying that her mechanic found two thousand dollars worth of repairs (on a 3900 dollar car!) and the car won't pass NYS inspection.
I just got off the phone and realized that the situation got very messy very quickly. Some of the items that she mentioned were...
Leaking steering rack ($390)
Two bad oxygen sensors ($200)
Two rear struts ($280)
Uneven wear on tires, replace two ($200)
and so forth....
I still don't know how we get from here to two thousand dollars...anyhow.
The struts are a non issue since I lowered the price by $600 at the time of transaction to compensate and at 280 for two struts that leaves her with 220 for labor on the rears. A cursory look revelaed that a NAPA brand oxygen sensor can be had on ebay for $39 plus $5 shipping. I never knew a car has two oxygen sensors? Maybe she meant o2 instead of two?
I told her I want to see an itemized bill and asked that her mechanic will forward a bill to me for consideration...
I feel bad because apparently the car is not roadworthy and will not pass inspection. I just had it inspected in NYC four months ago until 2007; odd.
I wouldn't want to buy a $3900 car and find that it can't pass inspection and cant be registered but some of this shit sounds fishy.
Question:
Out of the two major issues: leaking steering rack and 02 sensors which one would prevent it from passing inspection. Most likely the o2sensor because of emissions quality right?
I'm prepared to cut a check for $300-$350 to cover the steering since that is a defect issue not wear and tear but the rest I have no intention of paying. She said she was "looking" for help in the vicinity of $600-$700.
<scratches head> I sold the car "AS-IS" the agreement was AS-IS, I'm not paying more than $300 for half the steering parts and the oxygen sensor to make it roadworthy. The car drove fine and just passed inspection, yes I had a little trouble with the steering at full extension, and it might have idled a little rough..but thats $400 rack- $100 o2 sensor... $500 tops plus a little labor...I can't imagine anything else getting in the way of inspection, tires maybe? Get a used set of takeoffs on ebay for $80 in the 205/55/16 (i think) size...
arrrghhhh!!!
Guys, what to do? what to do?
