Where's the global cooling that was hyped up over 20 years ago. There was "scientific consensus" then. Actually, no more than now. Just scientists (and that is my field) seeking grants supported by the media and willing participants (calmed down from Lenin's term) in the populace.
There are MANY scientists who disagree that there is global warming caused by man. There are MANY more who say we really don't know if there really is global warming occuring. If you recall your schooling, there were ice ages and periods of lengthy warming trends long before there were humans. If not, the dinosaurs never would have lived nor would we see the geological evidence of glacial activities.
One thing all reasoned people can agree on, if we sign Kyoto, we will have to reduce our economic output to the level of nearly third world countries. I don't include China or India as a third world country (even with their large pockets of poverty) because of their economic potential. Signing Kyoto would cripple us. Putin originally was not going to sign Kyoto until he realized the treaty would affect Russia a little but affect America a lot. He stated that his scientists (in English and in Russian for those that care) found that there was little evidence that man was causing global warming and they weren't even certain that global warming was occuring.
