went through the details on multiple cards a few years ago; the amex cash back card (forget the exact name of it) was definitely the best deal. no annual fee, and they give anywhere from 1-5% cash back depending on how much you spend in a given year. cash back cards usually are a better deal than airlines/points as far as i'm concerned. the air miles usually come out to be <1% cash back or so, if you figure a $250 plane ticket. add in black out dates/hassle, and cash back is certainly the better way to go. fwiw, amex was also better than discover in terms of what you get back, and their customer service is outstanding. i lost my card in the flood last week; called amex, and they had one overnighted to me the next day for free. hth.
