I had an Integra GSR (8000 rpm & I used every last one) and the high-revving engine was just part of the personality of that car. It was fun to keep that engine up on the fun part of the torque curve.
I wouldn't have used the same style or same shift points in our 9³, because it wouldn't be right for THAT car.
I replaced my GSR with a saab-aru 9²x and that's a fun little car too. Just like any car, you learn how to use it to its best advantage. Having big torque available without downshifting was never very important to me. It's not that difficult to downshift.
Some people dislike that flavor in a car. I kinda like it. Still, I like the 9³ too, for it's own reasons.
