Even if the chickens are guaranteed to be free of salmonella. Because you never know what other bacteria they're colonised with. If you cook the meat properly, it doesn't matter if the chicken had salmonella, campylobacter, E. coli etc as long as it hasn't been laying around thawed outside the fridge for a long time.
