No bashing taken, I was looking for a discussion. I think we do the F-1/cart/irl discussion every Spring on this board, eh?
Can you give me one oval? Just one? for variety? you wouldn't like to see how the drivers do on one, how the strategy changes for passing, pits? The problem I recall from last year is almost every race involved someone "opening up the gap" and keeping it the whole race. I took a lot of good sunday afternoon naps during those races.
re: pushing to the limits, I agree that both IRL and nascar ovals involve putting the gas pedal down and leaving it in gear for the whole race and trying not to fall asleep, generally the cars can withstand that all out all the time, and yes, that gets boring, there's no comparison to a road course.
But remember when CART drivers refused to run at texas motor speedway b/c of the g-forces on their bodies, had they run full out no one doubts the cars could handle the speeds with few spin outs, it would have involved more driver skill in maintaining control and maneuvering at high, all out speeds around and in traffic, because of the inherent differences in F-1 cars.
When I went to the first CART oval here in chicago, cars were all over the track, slow, fast, they were all mixed up and it was exciting watching the faster cars go in and out of the slower, passing in the turns, etc. And a lot of the CART courses allow for more passing (not all obviously) like cleveland airport, road america. Lotta body work after that race.
