The 10 Gal tank was a kit that included a light and a magnetic pump that sucks water up then cascades it over a 2x3" filter. I think i did everything wrong that was mentioned like 1) I cleaned the filter with tap water, 2) changed the entire tank, 3) put no water conditioner, 4) didn't let the fish adapt to the new temperature.
My wife really likes the nice big tanks. She has aspirations to have a big tank in the house someday, so I think this is a learning lesson.
Another question I have is what is a reasonable budget i.e. cost for a tank that is maybe around 4-5 feet long with all the stuff needed to support it, like filters, pumps, heaters, and fish to fill it up with. Assume its fresh water and make whatever assumtion about the kind of fish, since I don't know what fish cost except for cheap goldfish. Thanks
