most European countries have better driver training than the U.S.
But speed limits are now common in most Euro countries. 130 kph (about 80 mph) is the norm on much of Germany's autobahns and French autoroutes.
147 may be safe on an empty road or ones where other people are expecting a car to come up on them and pass them at that speed, but those place don't include Phoenix and Scottsdale.
Remember, it takes little skill to put one's right foot on the floor on a straight road. And far too many cars can reach speeds well above what the brakes and chassis can safely handle, let alone what the driver can deal with.
All our Saabs will easily do 130 to 145 mph. Even more. And they are meant to go that fast. But that doesn't make it safe to do on a public road, at leastr in the U.S. I admit, that on an open, empty road I'll occasionally push past 100 or so, and would love to know what my 9K or 9-5 will do flat out, but that still doesn't make it safe or acceptable.
