connect a ground wire to the piping in the kitchen. The electrical service may not be connected to the water pipes. If it isn't, then a short in the frig will energize all the metallic piping in the house. And driving a separate ground rod is no effective either as it is at a high impedance to the electrical service ground which may be some distance away.
