Mike always has a wonderful perspective, which comes from understanding that cars--and specific makes--are important to some people, rather than just being iron to be moved. Highly unique in someone in his line of work.
I think a lot of people look at all the gizmos and gadgets on a lot of cars and immmediately diss any car that doesn't have them. Saabs don't have quite all the stuff you find on a Lexus or Infinti, but that doesn't make it any less of a modern car.
Nor do the differences between some older Saabs and some of the new mid-range cars on the market. I just spent two days in Florida where I rented a Pontiac Grand Prix from National. It had enough poke to be entertaining, and was comfortable enough. The ergonomics weren't too bad and except for the typical on-center numbness of mainline domestic GM cars it drove reasonbly well.
While it falls short of the more expensive '03 9-5 in our driveway, it is still less car than my 10-year-old 9000 CSE. I know some would argue that point, and some of it is what you are used to (and prefer), but when I got into my 9K at the home airport I was once again reminded just how good Saabs are and can be. Sure, the GP is maybe $20K these days and my 9K was $39K a decade ago, but you'd think the GP would also be a lot better than a 10-yr-old car.
Tells you a lot about what we have in our Saabs.
