I was forced to do a day in Paris after getting involuntarily bumped off of a connecting flight, rebooked for a midnight flight. Noel proposed a good itinerary, it will give you a good taste of the city.
A couple of logistical issues:
1. Be sure to tell your bank that you are traveling. I know that you do a lot of overseas travel, so did I until recently. I was very suprised in Italy two months ago when my ATM and Charge cards were frozen for fraud detection. The bank said that I should have informed them - it's not like I haven't made any international trips over the last 25+ years!
2. See if you can check your luggage all the way through to your final destination. When I got bumped a few years ago, there were no lockers available to store suitcases, due to terrorism. I wound up renting a car with a fellow "bumpee" just so I could leave it in the lot and use the trunk to stash my stuff for the day! You don't want to hear about the frantic night drive out to CDG airport on poorly marked detours due to road construction!
