The '97 9000 would be basically the same as your '94. Some folks have said that Saab built the later models of the 9000 better. But overall, it'd be the same as you have now.
I've had a classic 900, and I prefer the 9000. bamaChris said that the 9000 outhandles the 900, but that the 900 feels like it handles better. I'd agree with that. I remember a time that my wife was behind me - I in the 900, she in the 9000. We both had the same tires. As we both went through the same turn at the same speed, I had oversteer, and I looked in the mirror to watch her, and her car did not.
I certainly like the looks of the old C900's, and sometimes I think about getting another one, but you're looking at either finding one that was meticulously cared for in a non-salted area, or doing quite a bit of work yourself. If I had to pick a year and model, I'd get a '91 SPG, Talladega red. But it'll never be.
IMO, the 9-5 lacks the fun to drive feel of the 9000. I have a '91 9kt, and it's much more fun than our '01 9-5 wagon. Of course, I haven't driven 9-5 that's had engine and suspension mods, so I don't know its potential. I do see some people fixing them up, so maybe with some suspension upgrades and such, they'd be just as much fun.
