I meant to write earlier, but wasn't able to until now. The last time I checked, the best predictor of college performance (GPA) was HS rank. It's not a terribly high correlation (maybe +.30), but it's better than anything else. (Note that a correlation .3 allows one to predict, in this case, college grades w/ < 10% accuracy. That's all.) My point is that her high board scores indicate that she has picked up an impressive amount of information all through her school years and knows how to use/apply it. Also, it strongly suggests that she is a very good test-taker. In the short run, though, she apparently has a tough time of using a rather narrow set of facts or ideas and applying them to the also narrow testing situation used in any particular course she's taking. Good teachers, though, will help a student learn how to take his/her examinations, given that your daughter wants to "show she can do it" and please some people, e.g., herself, you, and her instructors. Now, if it doesn't matter to her whether she does well/pleases people, then there indeed a rub. Even if she were able to gain admission to a college, it seems to me that she's have the same set of problems facing her and would not do well in terms of academic performance, i.e., grades.

All of this applies to the usual US educational institution. There may, in fact, be programs in "the creative arts" at places here or in Canada or overseas where grades aren't a highly sought-after commodity and a person proves his or her mettle by the portfolio of work she produces. Would she be willing to consider such a non-traditional program in higher eduation education?

Yes, I've gone on too long, but it seems such a waste to not not try to help a person make a contribution to everyone's welfare. d
