I currently use a 20" Samsung LCD monitor that can be rotated 90 degrees. Unfortunately, this just a sale gimmick. The lens array on the monitor is optimized for horizontal viewing only. If you move your head side to side the screen brightness stays almost uniform but even small movement up and down creates changes in brightness (afaik all LCD panel are designed like that). This makes viewing the screen in portrait mode almost unbearable.
This worked before with CRT screens but goes not work anymore with LCDs.
