Several years ago there was a report that the design was bad but it was determined that there would be no rebuild until about 2020. Also there has been a cutback on bridge inspectors at the state level according to a recent report. There has not been much spending on roads and bridges in the State in recent years and the bridge was in terrible condition. The Governor did not want to spend the money although he did like the idea of borrowing money for road work. He is the "no taxes" Gov. The legislature did not want to borrow. They wanted to tax and pay for roads now. I drive under the bridge every day. On Monday road crews were big picking up a large amount of concrete rubble that had fallen from the bridge to the road below. They were jack hammering the bridge deck. I think there were state inspectors there when it came down. My thought was that part of the bridge deck (not the bridge) could fall on my car. There were workers and flag men right there so there was no need to call anyone. Right?
