Anyone Have Problems Returning Items to LL Bean?

I realize that there are many Saab owners in New England and I certainly don't want to offend anyone by my comments about LL Bean.
I have been buying items from LL Bean for the last 30 years or so. I was able to visit the store in Freeport while skiing in Maine 25 years ago and was impressed especially by the fish pond under the stairs going to the second level. But, 3 years ago, I bought 2 pairs of leather slippers for $50/pair. The leather on one slipper ripped at the at the stitching and I called them for a replacement. The lady that I talked to started to talk about "normal wear" and such. I got a little upset and read the following from the LL Bean website:
"From kayaks to slippers, fly rods to sweaters, everything we sell at L.L.Bean is backed by the same rock-solid guarantee of satisfaction. It's been that way since our founder sold his very first pair of Bean Boots in 1912. Today we're proud to continue the tradition – by offering quality products and standing behind them. Of course, we want you to be the final judge of quality. If you're not satisfied with your purchase, we'll replace it or give you your money back. It's that simple."
So my question is: Do I have a right to request another pair of slippers? It's not like I wear the slippers to work. I just wear them around the house. When I asked the lady how many hours the slipper should last for in my loaction in the US, she couldn't answer. BTW, guess which Asian country the slippers came from? Is there lead paint in leather? ... Ron
