I finally bit the bullet and bought snows for my Viggen this year (I'm also in CT). For a while I really couldn't justify them because, like you said, in CT our winter's are relatively mild (though I'm in north central, where we typically get a good amount of snow). I got stuck in a bad storm last year though, and after a 45-minute drive became a 4-hour drive, slipping around and gripping the wheel like it was my job, I decided, next year, it's snow tires for me. I put together a set of 16" for $600 (needed 16's to clear the larger Viggen brakes), and I figure they'll last several seasons, and also slow the wear on my summer tires, extending their life by a year or more. High initial cost, but over time it's nice to have the piece of mind.
