Why is the parts source an issue?

GM, like all huge companies does any number of dumb things, but I don't see what's wrong with having GM parts in a Saab. As I recall, the steering rack and/or pump in my '84 C900 came from GM.
None of the car manufacturers actually makes ALL their parts. That stuff is commonly outsourced to a wide range of parts suppliers. Sometimes these are owned by the manufacturer, other times they are independent. Parts are made to the manufacturer's specs and branded with that company's name, but many parts are made by one or more outside suppliers. For instance, Saab fuel injection systems used to come from Bosch, as do numerous electrical parts. Ditto most other Euro cars. Wheels on my 9000 are from Ronal. Sachs makes Saab shocks.
This is a non-issue IMHO.
