Wes, I'll buy your house and the Saabs. Just kidding. As you know the housing market stinks, we have two realtor/broker friends who are literally starving. A neighbor sold his house after almost two years on the market with several reductions. The suburbs that you mentioned are a lot higher than Colorado's prices. We were looking in Louisville and Boulder, CO area last year but knew that we could not sell our house in the alloted time. Now for the bad news, Highland Park is VERY PRICEY, a trader friend has a small house and they had it appraised for over $700K. Riverside and Deerfield are not as high but they are still way higher than where you live. My suggestion is to live north and west of Northbrook, you will find affordable houses and apartments to rent. The traffic in Chicago area is bad especially if your driving from the south.
I think that there are only 2 big moving companies, the smaller ones are subsidiaries of the 2. You may want to ask for more allowance. Eml if you have further questions.
